Congregational News and Notes
Welcome to worship on this Lord’s Day! This morning we continue the series on the books of the Bible looking at the book of Deuteronomy. This evening we consider the means God reveals himself to us as professed in the Belgic Confession. Next Sunday a special offering to assist Glenn Bolkema will be received.
Our Christian sympathy to Jo Toering in the recent loss of her sister, Catherine Van Beek.
Thank you to all the women who helped with GEMS Theme Night. We couldn’t have done it without you!
GEMS Counselors
Council Notes:
- The Council filled out the Classis credentials for the March 1 meeting in Volga. Pastor Tim and Larry
De Jongh will attend.
- The church will assist Glenn Bolkema in a remodeling project that should help enable him to remain
in his home. An offering will be received next week and a fund raiser planned; volunteer labor may
also be needed.
- A proposal for a new retractable screen, projector, computer and software was presented and approved.
There will be a need for some additional electrical work to enable this to proceed. Cost is around
$14,500. Current fund balance is around $5,500. We are waiting on a denominational grant which we
hope will be $1,000. We will have more offerings and borrow any additional fund needed.
- We will be providing a room in the church for kids to spend time in. Donations of games or toys will
be welcomed.
- A special game time will follow the pot luck on Communion Sunday, March 4.
- A Gideon representative is expected on February 26th. An offering is scheduled.
- The next Council meeting is moved up a week to February 29.
- Dennis Kroll of SWCH visited the council to thank the church for its support of Christian education
and urged us to continue to do so.
In your mailbox today is the revised 2012 Directory. Please check out the prayer chain for any changes. Also, would you please return the 1st copy you received a few weeks ago and put on white round table in Fellowship Hall so I can reuse the cover and some of the pages. Thanks!
The DVD “Fireproof” was donated to the library but is missing. Please return if you checked it out.

GROUNDWORK - How to read the Hard Stories: If you are a long-time Christian, the Bible may be very familiar and comforting to you. Perhaps it’s so familiar that it no longer surprises you. But the Bible ought to startle us—even shock and upset us. Join the Feb. 12 Groundwork conversation on 2 Peter 3:15-18 and you'll see what we mean. Find a local radio station or listen online at www.GroundworkOnline.com.
